Have you ever noticed the hands of the cashier in the supermarket where you re shopping? Do you know the name of the delivery boy that brings you your order? What does a telephone operator think when she finishes her shift? How about that woman working in the road toll-booth? Is she in love? Does a road cleaner get used to the garbage stink? How about the theater usherette: is she fed-up watching the same theater play every single night? How many of the inhabitants of a typical residential building does a doorman really know? Who’s more under stress, a first aider or as a car parking attendant in a ferry? What does a bailiff feel during an eviction? And really, what kind of lives do they live? Is there pain, emptiness, desperation, or just loneliness, boredom and a sense internal paralysis? Do you ever get used to boredom or does it grow ever more unbearable? Is it possible to bear this sense of distancing from the others and the forced repetition or daily routines? And all of them, these “unnoticed”, how do they see the rest of us? What do they say about us? Certainly much more than we […]

This is the announcement regarding the 8th Antiparos Road Race for Good Health by Antiparos En Plo. “Since its inception, the Antiparos Road Race for Good Health has succeeded in developing and evolving, in offering lots of smiles and pleasurable moments, and in arousing the interest of the running community. From the outset, our cultural Society has given priority to runners and hikers, and has aimed at organizing and hosting a true celebration at the start of each summer; all along, the basic goal of the event has been to both promote Antiparos and foster the true sporting spirit. Every race-related action, every small addition or improvement to the event, has been carried out with the participants in mind; after all, these are the very people who, through their presence, have honoured the Antiparos Road Race for seven years now. This people-centred approach is what spurs us each year to take dozens of parameters into account when deciding on the date of the race. Fully respecting the athletes making their way to Antiparos from many parts of Greece, and taking into full consideration the upcoming election period (with local, regional and EU elections to be held), the other races slated […]

Take a minute to enjoy this video inspired by the greatness of green color in Antiparos. “When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.” ― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast *Video Photos : Yannis Triantafillos *Post Cover Photo : Yannis Makrogiannelis *Video Edit : Socrates Rivers Here’s the video below:

A new Cycladic head sculpture was put today by the Municipality of Antiparos at Antiparos port. The statue is made of marble and is a copy of similar types of art that have been created when the Cycladic civilization was flourished around 4500 – 5000 years ago. The sculpture, which is around 2.50 meters high, depicts the form of art that was developed widely in the Early Bronze Age. Photo Gallery General information about the ancient Cycladic art The Cycladic islands of the Aegean were first inhabited by voyagers from Asia Minor around 3000 BCE and a certain prosperity was achieved thanks to the wealth of natural resources on the islands such as gold, silver, copper, obsidian and marble. This prosperity allowed for a flourishing of the arts and the uniqueness of Cycladic art is perhaps best illustrated by their clean-lined and minimalistic sculpture which is amongst the most distinctive art produced throughout the Bronze Age Aegean. These figurines were produced from 3000 BCE until around 2000 BCE when the islands became increasingly influenced by the Minoan civilization based on Crete. Small statuettes were sculpted from local coarse-grained marble and although different forms were produced, all share the same characteristics of being highly stylized with only […]
